When will Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) start trading in the US? This question has been echoing in the cryptocurrency market after the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the 19b-4 forms of eight Ethereum ETF issuers on May 23.
In order for the products to begin trading, the registration of these Ethereum ETFs’ S-1 forms needs to be approved by the SEC. Recently, BlackRock and VanEck filed documents to amend their respective S-1 forms for their Ethereum spot-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
Analyzing the recent developments, Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas commented on the S-1 form updates, noting that they are a “good sign.” Furthermore, he predicted that the ETFs could be launched by the end of June, stating that this is a “legitimate possibility.” However, Balchunas emphasized his previous estimate of a July 4th launch date.
“Good sign. Prob see rest roll in soon. Then prob one more round of fine-tune comments from Staff. End of June launch a legit possibility altho keeping my o/u date as July 4th,” wrote the analyst.
After the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the 19b-4 registrations of Ethereum spot-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs), some market observers have been estimating when the final approval of the S-1 registrations by the regulator will take place.
In this regard, market and policy observer Nate Geracci from the ETF Store shared his prediction about the launch of Ethereum ETFs, highlighting that the approval of the S-1 registrations could happen within a maximum period of two to three months.
In a publication on the X platform on May 27, Geracci also emphasized his expectation that the SEC could approve the S-1 registrations in the coming weeks. “When will the SEC approve the spot ETH ETF registration statements? *No one* knows for sure, but my expectation would be in the coming weeks. 2-3 months maximum. IMO, the heavy lifting has already been done after spot BTC ETFs and eth futures ETFs. It’s just a matter of how long the SEC wants to drag this out.”
At the time of publication, the ethereum price was quoted at US$3,735.81, down 1.8% in the last 24 hours.
