Fuzhou Industrial Bank (CIB) has introduced a groundbreaking initiative that transforms digital yuan (e-CNY) spending into carbon credit points. Through a dedicated mobile app, users can now accumulate environmental benefits by making everyday transactions such as daily payments and financial investments.
This rewards system is an integral part of CIB’s broader strategy to promote a sustainable consumption culture and enhance the digital yuan ecosystem. Known for its leadership in green finance, the bank has facilitated the use of digital transactions for purchasing carbon offsets and providing sustainable loans.
Having nearly 7.3 million digital wallets and transactions totaling over 300 billion yuan, Industrial Bank is rapidly driving the adoption of digital currency. As a key player in the development of automated banking services and information systems in China, the institution aims to fully integrate all financial services within an open banking model.
This development at Banco Industrial aligns with China’s broader efforts to expand the use of e-CNY. Chinese authorities, in collaboration with state and private banks, are actively promoting the currency to achieve widespread acceptance among businesses and consumers. Additionally, Hong Kong has started facilitating the use of the digital yuan in local commercial transactions, expanding its usability.
